Travel Guides

I love our travel guides. We only started buying them when we went travelling in 2003. We now buy one for every new place that we go to. I have a Switzerland guide to add to these (going in May/June) but it’s next to the bed at the minute :)

I have just moved them in to the living room so that I can stare at them all the time! Lol. They bring back such happy memories :)

Travel Guide – Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of preparing for a trip. Getting the right insurance cover is very important. Choose the wrong policy and if the worst happens you could find that you are not covered – do be aware of what you are covered for and what you need to arrange separate insurance for. By the same rule, visiting a foreign country on a short city break is very low risk and you might well be covered for medical expenses by national reciprocal agreements. In this case, travel insurance recommended by many travel agents is extremely expensive, mainly due to commission plus administrative costs, and you will pay disproportionately to the risk by a huge factor.

Travel Guides question by MaryE: Travel Guides?
I’m looking for a 2008 New York City travel guide. Does anyone have any suggestions on one? Also, what is your opinion of the Frommer’s, Fodor’s, or DK travel guides?

My friend, may I recommend the “Not For Tourist Guide to New York City.” This little book has plenty of information on New York City and maps to everything from stores to transportation. You can order the latest version at the link below.

Good luck

I have a similar bookshelf! In fact I have 4 of your collection plus a few others of my own! This is making me want to go on a holiday! The Great Britain one is good too..especially when you have visitors or want a cheaper break somewhere.

The Great Britain one lives in the car :)

My dad swears by it and my sister and I have kept up the tradition. Great for when you don’t want to stop at a service station on a long journey!

    I’ve just ordered it.

    It’s a gorgeous book.

Grrr I can’t find the 366 days one on Amazon. Only this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Earth-Air-Days-Herve-Bras/dp/0500542783/...

Was thinking of Fiji as a stopover later this year – is it really VERY boring???

I suppose it’s your idyllic white sand, blue sea, palm tree kind of place. Apart from snorkelling there was nothing to do.

Katy Snaps Glad I stopped by to read this. I too have ‘THE GOOD PUB GUIDE’ & you’re so right. It’s worth its weight in gold. (& it does weigh a bit too!)

I must remember to pack it in H’s luggage tomorrow when he flies out to the UK on yet another business trip. He’ll be there for a month so I bet he’ll find it extremely useful ;-)

    seen in my contacts photos

Thanks EY – I recently sold one of my photos, so I’ll spend the spoils on that book. They can’t be that different I guess. Cheers for the link :)

Good to see more fans of The Good Pub Guide!
I look forward to hearing when it’s arrived, tried and tested!
Which photo have you sold? That’s exciting! How much did you charge? Make sure you don’t undercharge yourself…that’s my problem!

I love your travel guides and what fab memories you have to go with them.

  16. JonTait2002 on August 11, 2010 at 8:21 pm

@katy – Someone emailed me and asked if they could buy a high-rez version of this photo as their colleague is leaving work soon and she walks past the Minster every day on the way to work and this person thought it would make a nice gift printed and framed. I was really touched they’d asked me, I only charged them a £15 amazon voucher! I honestly had no idea what to charge, and seeing as all I was doing was emailing it across it didn’t feel right to charge too much, what do you think?

  17. Evil Yoda on August 11, 2010 at 8:27 pm

It’s a fab photo. Well done.

  18. Katy Serendipity on August 11, 2010 at 8:45 pm

I agree with EY, it’s a great photo…..and you didn’t charge enough!!! I’ll talk to you about this another time.

  19. JonTait2002 on August 11, 2010 at 9:41 pm

    Thanks both of you :)
